Jaime’s First Post – Mobile Dating BootCamp

Jaime old photojaime31Oh how my profile needed some help!

Online dating expert Julie Spira and I emailed back and forth for a few weeks about my background, what I am looking for in a relationship etc. Last night we had our first phone conversation. We talked again about what sites I had been using for dating and then we went over my profile. First off, Julie told me I had way too many pictures up, I had 13 but she recommended having 5 up. I had always figured the more pictures the better, I am sometimes suspicious when someone only has a few pictures on their profile.

Julie told me not to give everything away in my profile, just to make it a bit of a teaser. I always had a picture of myself in a bikini, which she said is sending the wrong message. I had put it on the site because some of my guys friends that does online dating told me I should. I am looking for a serious relationship- I want to get married and have kids so Julie told me I had to take this picture down. The picture did get me a lot of attention, probably not the kind I am looking for!

We went over the rest of my profile, made some changes that will hopefully help! I am going to to play around on the Tinder and Match.com mobile apps and see how it goes!

Post iDate Date Update from Franklin

Franklin - 27Hi It’s Franklin.

What a terrific panel on Friday at the idate Mobile Dating Conference! It was phenomenal appearing before an audience of people dedicated to mobile and online dating. My mom always says that if you’re going to complain about a problem, then complain to someone who could act to resolve the problem. Well there were definitely some great points of feedback on Friday from everyone—and in front of people who would actually take our feedback and run with it!

Julie Spira was kind enough to let me tackle eHarmony, one of the crown jewels in the online dating world. The iPad app is so delicious. It gives the experience of all of the needed major options laid out on a table. Navigation is super simple, and the animated transitions are seamless, and setting up a profile was painless with a guided wizard walking through the key points of information needed.

Perhaps that summarizes the eHarmony experience: guided. They insist upon grabbing the user’s hand every step of the process. For example once you have decided to send a message with a user, they take you through Guided Communication. It’s a series of questions that you send to a user to see if they will respond, everything from “How many books did you read last year?” to “What are some of the most important marriage issues to you?”

I guess some people need some help with communication off the bat. Personally, I am far more used to introducing myself to someone in my own way based off of what they have in their profile. However this process takes the burden off of me to come up with an icebreaker—they are already there!

Mobile Dating – Looking for Mr. Right

Payal - 26Hi everyone, it’s Payal with a date update about my Mobile Dating Bootcamp experience.

I’ve been diligently using both OkCupid and Badoo since my last post. Now with less than 28 hours until the iDate conference, I’m still looking for Mr. Right.

OkCupid still seems to have a better selection of men (and women for those of you looking!) than Badoo. Outside of my personal preferences, men on Badoo seem to have nothing to say except “hi” and makes my experience more like an instant messenger chat experience (like AIM or Gchat). It is also disappointing that there aren’t better filters like interests so I can have better luck in meeting someone.

I’ve been sending notes to guys on OkCupid and it doesn’t seem to be successful. Either they want to be the first to start a conversation with a woman or maybe I’m just not their type, who knows…? At first if you don’t succeed, try try again :-) So I’m still trying!

Looking forward to iDate!

Looking for Mr. Right on my iPhone

JenHi! It’s Jen with my date update from Mobile Dating BootCamp.

Alas, I’ve come down to the wire, and I still am looking for Mr. Right on my iPhone!

I’ve gotten acclimated to both OK Cupid and MeetMoi. The quality of men appear to be a bit more to my liking on OKC than the fellas on MeetMoi. I’ve been browsing for men on MeetMoi by looking for singles close to my area. It seems to keep on showing dudes from South Central L.A….Yikes!

Also, I don’t think too many people have heard of MeetMoi, so the dating pool is smaller. I could be wrong. As for OKC, it appears that it has been around for a while and more people use it, therefore offering a large variety for me to browse and flirt.

Over the past week, I’ve been rating profiles and sending winks to men that I think I’d be compatible with. But, I’m not sure it’s working for me. I’m starting to think that men don’t like aggressive women or they don’t like receiving virtual winks (much like being “poked” Facebook). Oh well. At any rate, I’m not going to give up and will keep truckin’ along!

I’ll be with the other contestants at the Mobile Dating Conference on Friday at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.
